Alan JaquesCPEng (Hons), MIPTA
After graduating as a Mechanical Engineer from Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom, Alan began his career at Rolls-Royce Aerospace, where he focused on failure diagnosis and redesign of components for large civil jet engines. He took a career break in 2005 to go backpacking, five months of which was spent in Australia, resulting in his decision to make Australia his new home.
In 2008, he emigrated and found a role in Brisbane consulting for the RAAF using his aerospace experience. After this he relocated to Perth to work for Quickstep Technologies in the field of composites production, producing components for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter project.
Alan fell in love with Perth and when Quickstep relocated to Sydney, he found a role as an Engineering Coordinator at Lycopodium Minerals, in the resources sector, where he worked primarily on gold and copper processing plants.
After some years in the resources sector, Alan's interest in cutting edge technology and innovation led him to apply for a Technical Assistant position at Lord and Company, where he has since completed a Master's degree in Intellectual Property to become a registered Trans-Tasman Patent and Trade Mark Attorney.
Alan has since gained broad experience across the Intellectual Property spectrum of patents, trade marks and registered designs. He has supported and advised a variety of clients, from sole inventors to large firms, regarding their IP matters. Alan has successfully drafted a number of patent applications and prosecuted them through to reach grant in many countries around the world.
Freedom to Operate and Validity opinions are other areas where Alan has significant experience, having provided opinions to many clients to assist with understanding their risk of infringement and navigating the landscape safely.
His technical background and significant experience make him well placed to assist clients particularly in the mechanical engineering sector, Alan has worked with clients across a wide range of industries including resources, additive manufacturing, communications and agriculture.
Outside of work Alan enjoys spending time with his better half and their two young children, and when he occasionally has time, he also enjoys cycling, paddle boarding and discovering more of Australia.
